Real Madrid continued their record breaking streak, equaling Barcelona’s Spanish record of 18 consecutive wins in all competitions. Meanwhile, there were also wins for Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, as well as Champions League spot favourites (at least for now) Sevilla. … [Read more...]
Messi stars in this week’s La Liga team of the week
Messi! Messi! Messi! That was the name on everyone’s lips as the Barcelona man once again broke another record. This time though, it was Telmo Zarra’s long-standing supposedly unbeatable record that was shattered by the little Argentine. Lionel Messi hit a hattrick in what was meant to be a tough test for Barcelona at the Nou Camp against a Sevilla side enjoying a great season. … [Read more...]
Suarez: his Barca career so far
Seeing Luis Suarez sitting on the bench for Barcelona on Saturday would have made any Liverpool - or indeed Almeria fan - want to weep. That the Reds' best player of last season couldn't even make Barca's starting 11 was surely a worrying prospect for their opposition. … [Read more...]
La Liga Team of the Week
It was a Match-Round blessed with so many goals, with only one game, the clash at the San Mames between Athletic Club and visitors Granada the only fixture to produce less than two goals. It’s therefore not a surprise that most of our picks for the Team of the Round either scored, assisted, or had a hand in their side’s goals. … [Read more...]
Villareal v Barcelona preview
This Sunday sees Villareal welcome Barcelona to El Madrigal, in what is undoubtedly the game of the weekend. Despite the absence of several key men, Barca have enjoyed a straightforward start to their La Liga campaign, with a 3-0 win over Elche last week thanks to the reliable shooting boots of Lionel Messi. Villarreal, by contrast, were less convincing in their 2-0 victory over Levante. … [Read more...]

The FC Barcelona query
It is really hard to remember the last time Barcelona were looking into the new season with so many question marks over their head, probably not since Pep Guadiola was first appointed coach. Since then, Barcelona had two mini cycles. First was defined by Pep's legacy, in which the late Tito Vilanova managed to win the title but subsequently failed to repeat that level of performance in the Champions league, whilst dealing with a life threatening disease. Last season Tata Martino made a huge leap away from the Barcelona that was lauded as the 'best Barca team in history', installing new ideas … [Read more...]
Who will be La Liga’s top scorer this season?
There are more candidates for Spain's illustrious Pichichi this season than ever in recent times. It has been the Messi - Ronaldo show for some time now, you have to go back to the 2008/2009 season when a player other than Messi or Ronaldo finished top scorer of La Liga, Diego Forlan of Atletico Madrid. This season however, the likes of Suarez, Mandzukic and even Falcao(if you follow the transfer gossip) can top the charts ahead of Messi and Ronaldo. … [Read more...]
La Liga title race hots up
La Liga's title race is going to the wire, as all three contenders claimed important victories yesterday. In recent weeks they seemed to have been taking it in turns to drop points, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to predict who will claim the crown. The Barcelona derby opened proceedings. Espanyol kept the match tight against their local rivals despite tipping site Gamblingsites.net who write about the importance of gambling safely, predicting a Barca rout. It looked as if Tata Martino's points were in danger of dropping more points, until the wizard came to their rescue again. … [Read more...]
Barcelona Progress But Neymar Is Out
Lionel Messi scored twice at the Alfonso Perez stadium, to give Barcelona a 2-0 victory that sends them through to the quarter finals of the Copa Del Rey six nil on aggregate. With Barca already 4-0 up from last week's first leg (in which Messi alsco scored twice after climbing from the substitutes bench), it seemed that victory was a formality. Getafe had some hope, however, in that they previously beat Barcelona by four goals in the Copa in 2007. The fans in the south Madrid suburb didn't seem to expect a repeat – it was a disappointingly sparse crowd. Tata Martino named a strong side with … [Read more...]
