The FC Barcelona query

19th August 2014 by vicek

It is really hard to remember the last time Barcelona were looking into the new season with so many question marks over their head, probably not since Pep Guadiola was first appointed coach. Since then, Barcelona had two mini cycles. First was defined by Pep's legacy, in which the late Tito Vilanova managed to win the title but subsequently failed to repeat that level of performance in the Champions league, whilst dealing with a life threatening disease. Last season Tata Martino made a huge leap away from the Barcelona that was lauded as the 'best Barca team in history', installing new ideas … [Read more...]

Valencia’s Mathieu pushing for Barca move

20th July 2014 by tomw

Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu has issued a statement in an attempt to get his club negotiating with Barcelona ahead of a possible transfer. The club want up to €20m for the defender but Barcelona have been put off by the figure, offering around €14m initially. Mathieu, 30, was the subject of a bid from Barca but Valencia rejected the offer. Now desperate to clinch a deal to move to a club he calls 'the biggest in the world', Mathieu released a long statement clarifying his position and why he feels the club should reward his loyalty. "Valencia CF has an offer on their table from an … [Read more...]

Rakitic, who is preparing to face Brazil in the World Cup opening match this Thursday, has agreed personal terms with Barca and is just awaiting the clubs to agree the final figure and conditions of the transfer. Upon completion, Barca are expected to commence with Cesc Fabregas' transfer to whichever club he chooses. The Croat is expected to cost the Catalan club around … [Read more...]

Is Luis Enrique the Right Choice for Barcelona? They better hope so.

1st June 2014 by ericd

Barcelona wasted no time in appointing Luis Enrique as their new manager. As a former player, captain, and coach of Barcelona B, Enrique seems like the perfect hire to ensure Barcelona returns to its winning ways. However, his C.V. doesn’t necessary mean success is guaranteed; the coaches’ graveyard is littered with epitaphs of managers who seemed destined for success. In today’s game there are too many factors involved and too many unknowns for success to be a given for any manager. … [Read more...]

Classic hangover or a need for change for Barcelona?

1st March 2013 by marks

Tuesday night’s result was one that leaves another hangover for the Catalan club, not long after the Milan disaster, but as with all hangovers they will hope it will pass. After Iniesta’s comments to the media at the conference yesterday, many would say that Tito Vilanova’s absence is now truly being felt by the entire squad. Should Barça act in the interim and bring in someone to cover his absence. Luis Enrique, ex Barça B and Roma coach has been suggested, as has Eusebio Sacristain, the current B incumbent. … [Read more...]
