22nd February 2011 by andym

Chelsea gave their Champions League hopes a massive boost this evening as they ran out 2-0 winners over FC Copenhagen thanks to two goals from Nicholas Anelka. The Blues started brightly and it didn't take long for the away side to open the scoring after a misplaced pass from ex-Chelsea midfielder Jesper Gronkjaer fell straight to Anelka's feet and he provided a cool finish past the Copenhagen keeper Johan Wiland just inside twenty minutes. As the second peiord began things worsened for the hosts and again it didn't take long for Chelsea to take the initiative and add a second goal … [Read more...]

Black Country Derby Ends All-Square

20th February 2011 by andym

A late Carlos Vela goal rescued a point for West Brom in the Black Country Derby this afternoon after a stunning Jamie O'Hara strike put the visitors Wolves ahead in the first-half. The match started brightly and neither side held back as Wolves and West Brom both had chances early on. It was ex-Spurs midfielder O'Hara who broke the dead-lock however after Nenad Milijas laid off an inviting ball which was struck superbly from 30 yards out beyond the reach of Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill. Both sides continued to press deep into injury time of the first period but despite a tight first half … [Read more...]

Ancelotti Denies Ray Wilkins Departure Has Affected Chelsea

20th February 2011 by andym

Ray Wilkins

Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti has today denied any accusation that the sacking of ex-assistant manager Ray Wilkins has had a detrimental affect on his side. After Chelsea crashed out to Everton on penalties Saturday afternoon, more and more evidence is stacking up to suggest that Ray Wilkins' departure last year is the main reason behind Chelsea's poor performances in both cup competitions and the Premier League. Whilst speaking to BBC Football after the FA Cup fourth round replay tie, Ancelotti remained positive about player morale in the club and denied any link between Ray Wilkins' … [Read more...]
