Real Madrid v Liverpool Report
A Karim Benzema first half goal sealed Real Madrid's place in the knock-out phases of the Champions League with two games to spare at the Bernabeu. Brendan Rodgers sent out a vastly inexperienced Liverpool side, leaving out the likes of Gerrard, Sterling and Balotelli, but they gave a good account of themselves in a narrow defeat. … [Read more...]
Exclusive: Ronaldo hoping for United European return
Cristiano Ronaldo is hoping that Manchester United can end their European exile and qualify for the Champions League this season. The Red Devils face Manchester City on Sunday, hoping their late draw with Chelsea last week will spur them on against their out of form rivals. Whilst 9 points off of leaders Chelsea, United are looking to firstly step back into Europe, having invested heavily during the summer. Under David Moyes, United missed out on European qualification last season and now find themselves in the unusual position of watching Europe's elite on TV every fortnight. Ex-United man … [Read more...]
How Barcelona built Real Madrid
To understand the rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid you must travel back to the Spanish Civil War and the dictatorship of Francesco Franco that followed the war. In July of 1936 Franco led a coup against The Second Spanish Republic that had been in power since 1931. During the following Spanish Civil War, Catalonia became the center of Socialist thought and Barcelona became the capitol of the Spanish Republican (People’s) Army that opposed Franco’s Spanish Nationalist Army. … [Read more...]
El Clasico Preview
Barcelona's trip to the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday needs little introduction. The La Liga leaders travel to Real Madrid with a four-point lead over their fiercest rivals, and boasting an unbeaten record in the league so far this season. Adding to the intensity of this already fraught fixture is the prospect that Luis Suarez could make his debut for the Catalan club, following a lengthy ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay's World Cup win over Italy way back in June. … [Read more...]

La Liga team of the week
Valencia were arguably the biggest winners of the round as they held on bravely for all three points in Saturday’s big La liga game against the champions, Atletico Madrid at Mestalla. Goalkeeper Diego Alves was surely responsible for keeping Los Che in contention for maximum points. The Brazilian time and again rose to the occasion to make crucial saves, including a penalty just before half-time that stopped Atleti from going into the break trailing by just a single goal (they were trailing by 3 goals after 13 minutes). … [Read more...]
Villareal v Real Madrid Preview
Villarreal hosts Real Madrid at ‘el Madrigal’ this Saturday, September 27th at 10 AM EST. ‘Los Blancos’ have been scoring for fun in their last two matches and will be looking to finally begin their assault on La Liga after two straight defeats to Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Villarreal currently sit in 7th after a few decent results barring the home defeat to Barcelona. This is definitely one of the more attractive games of the match day. … [Read more...]
La Liga Team of the Week
It was a Match-Round blessed with so many goals, with only one game, the clash at the San Mames between Athletic Club and visitors Granada the only fixture to produce less than two goals. It’s therefore not a surprise that most of our picks for the Team of the Round either scored, assisted, or had a hand in their side’s goals. … [Read more...]
Can Madrid’s strikeforce fire them to the La Liga title?
Real Madrid have been on a scoring spree having notched 13 times in their previous two outings! The club has reinforced heavily throughout Carlo Ancelotti's reign as manager, having brought in James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale for a combined £145 million. That's not to mention the £80 million spent on Cristiano Ronaldo when he moved from Manchester United. The club also has Karim Benzema, Javier Hernandez and Jese Rodriguez (once he recovers from injury) to make up a frightening front line. Madrid have already lost two games in La Liga this season, but with their attack beginning to click, can … [Read more...]
