Four things you need to get a result at the Nou Camp

16th November 2011 by andym

The other month we wrote a comprehensive guide on how any team could shape their bunch of prima donna no-hopers into a force to be reckoned with by replicating Barcelona's sexy style of attacking football. After reading this guide and taking everything we've said on board, your team no matter what level should be ready to take on the world destroying every team in their wake with fluidity and over-whelming finesse. However, should your transformation fail despite your best efforts, what's the best thing to do when you find yourself on the next plane to Barcelona knowing you face … [Read more...]

The nominees for this year's prestigious Ballon d'or award was announced on Tuesday and the shortlist rather unsurprisingly was full of La Liga players including eight from Barcelona and five from Real Madrid. … [Read more...]

Levante: The team that dare to dream

29th October 2011 by andym

Just when you thought the La Liga title race couldn't get any more predictable and one-sided, the football gods throw us a much-needed curveball in the form of this season's over-achievers Levante - a side very much expected to face another relegation battle this season have had a miraculous turnaround in fortunes and after an impressive start, quite unbelievably sit in the lofty heights of 3rd place in the La Liga table after already claiming scalps off football powerhouses Real Madrid, Malaga and Villareal so far this campaign. … [Read more...]

Malaga March Forwards

14th September 2011 by tomw

Santi Cazorla and Joaquin doubles secured 3 routine points for Malaga as they overwhelmed a hapless Granada 4-0 in the Eastern Andalucian derby. A defeat to fellow rivals Sevilla on the opening day spelt trouble for Malaga but they are now officially up and running. Could this be the beginning of something? Judging by last nights performance it becomes hard to tell due to the quality of the opposition. It'd be like getting carried away after a victory over Swansea City! Nevertheless, Manuel Pellegrini's men ran out convincing winners against a team who look to be in for the long run already. … [Read more...]

La Liga: The New SPL?

1st September 2011 by andym

Okay. It took Revista de La Liga just thirty minutes on Tuesday to mention a topic that has very much become the elephant in the room of Spanish football recently - the domination of Barcelona and Real Madrid and the ever-growing gap between them and their fellow La Liga competitors in terms of finance, performance and control. … [Read more...]

What the Champions League Draw Served Up For the Spanish Sides

25th August 2011 by tomw

Valencia, Villarreal, Real Madrid and Barcelona all awaited the Champions League Group Stage draw eagerly today as the coverage unfolded as smoothly as ever in Monaco. As ever, a predictable pause ensued as last year's tournament was articulately recapped in a montage of highlights and commentary. It proved a mouthwatering supplement to this year's competition as much as it wasted time for equally keen viewers. … [Read more...]

Life after Aguero and De Gea for Atletico

21st August 2011 by tomw

Lighting up Manchester with a scintillating performance on Monday night reminded all at the Vicente Calderon what they have to be prepared not to witness this season. Kun Aguero and his new Manchester City teammates can bask in their cash spewed paradise (until United once again come to town and teach them a lesson) following a routine 4-0 demolition of newly promoted Swansea City while Los Rojiblancos stare into a rather different oblique subsequent to the sale of their star men as former keeper David De Gea also settles into life in the same city. … [Read more...]

Barca way behind in pre-season preparations

4th August 2011 by andym

Even the most seasoned of pundits will tell you not to pay too much attention to a side's pre-season friendly results when formulating a prediction for their season. However, the over-whelming success for Barcelona recently has meant this rule has now kind of become exempt in a city where fans are accustomed to success and with two defeats on the bounce to Manchester United and Chivas, Barcelona boss Pepe Guardiola now faces a balancing act if he wishes his players to be ready for their opening away clash against big spending Malaga on the 21st August. … [Read more...]
