I believe only a very few will argue if we go ahead and name Atletico Madrid the outright team of the round after they pulled off the biggest result (both in scoreline and importance) of the round of matches. But we won’t. Once again this week, there’s a mixture of players from different club sides, including the champions, Barcelona, and Valencia. … [Read more...]
Benzema leads our La Liga team of the week
Almeria goalkeeper Julian was huge for the relegation strugglers over the last round of games, and is the first name on the list in La liga Blog’s Team of the Round. … [Read more...]
Neymar leads this week’s La Liga team of the week
Legendary penalty stopper Diego Alves made yet again a crucial save from 12 yards out, to keep Valencia on top in the biggest game of Match Round 20. Valencia – who were leading 2-0 at some point – were at risk of being pegged-back after Sevilla got a second penalty in less than five minutes, but the Brazilian stepped-up big a second time to keep Los Che in the lead and ahead of their Andalusian rivals. Valencia went on to win 3-1 to leapfrog Sevilla on La Liga table. … [Read more...]
Messi stars in our La Liga team of the week
The 2014/2015 season finally hit the halfway mark, with Real Madrid getting the unofficial title of winter champions after they completed a hard-fought but comprehensive win away at Getafe. There were also wins for title contenders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while European football hopefuls Valencia, Sevilla and Villareal enjoyed a great weekend too. No surprises that this round’s best XI is largely influenced by players from these clubs. … [Read more...]
Messi, Neymar and Suarez all make this week’s La Liga team of the week
Barcelona played out of their skins in a 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid to keep in touch with leaders Real Madrid at the summit of the La liga table, and their unstoppable forward trio highlight this round’s best XI. In goal, Diego Marino’s saves were key for Levante in their goalless draw against Deportivo Ciutat de València. The 24-year-old made six saves to secure a point for Les Granotes, and keep them just outside the relegation zone (at least based on goals difference). How important will the point be, come May? … [Read more...]
La Liga team of the week
League leaders Real Madrid were not in Valencia this round due to their Club World Cup engagements (which they unsurprisingly won), therefore it was an opportunity for Atleti and Barcelona to close up the gap at the top. Both teams didn’t disappoint. The league goes on break – albeit a short one – for Christmas and will resume in the first week of January. … [Read more...]
Ronaldo leads the La Liga team of the week
As the festive break approaches quickly, Real Madrid are starting to pull away from the rest with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla all dropping points in this round of games. Still a way to go, but Los Merengues are already laying down a marker with 15 rounds gone. … [Read more...]

Real Madrid continued their record breaking streak, equaling Barcelona’s Spanish record of 18 consecutive wins in all competitions. Meanwhile, there were also wins for Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, as well as Champions League spot favourites (at least for now) Sevilla. … [Read more...]
Messi stars in this week’s La Liga team of the week
Messi! Messi! Messi! That was the name on everyone’s lips as the Barcelona man once again broke another record. This time though, it was Telmo Zarra’s long-standing supposedly unbeatable record that was shattered by the little Argentine. Lionel Messi hit a hattrick in what was meant to be a tough test for Barcelona at the Nou Camp against a Sevilla side enjoying a great season. … [Read more...]
Gareth Bale stars in this week’s La Liga team of the week
Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Fabricio was the Man of the Match in the Galicians’ goalless draw against Cordoba on Friday. The 26-year-old Spanish goalkeeper made save after save, capping it all with a massive penalty save. Safe to say Deportivo would have returned home without any point if they had anyone else between the sticks. Diego Colotto scored a late equaliser right at the death to deny visiting Villareal all three points, and earn Espanyol a valuable point. But it wasn’t just that, the Argentine international proved key on the defensive end as he helped keep the rear secure for the … [Read more...]
