As the new La Liga season draws ever closer, the fans of Spanish football will begin to get very excited. Let’s just hope that the 2019/20 season is as thrilling as the last one! With Barcelona easing to a fairly comfortable win in the end, rivals Atletico and Real will be looking to strike back. While a lot of attention focuses on who might win La Liga, it is also worth looking at which teams may be fighting it out at the wrong end table of the table. Of course, once that is done you will need something else to do as you wait for the new season to begin. Playing online casino games is a … [Read more...]
Barcelona reveals new away kit for 2019/20 campaign
Barcelona has turned to 1979 for inspiration for their new away kit for the upcoming season. Their new yellow away shirt features a diagonal stripe in the traditional "blaugrana" colours, in what is arguably one of the best throwback kits of the season. The new kit was made available to fans around the world on 9th July. So what has inspired Barcelona's retrospective outlook for the new kit? Well, much of the drive behind the 1979 design is that this year marks the 40th anniversary of "La Masia." Celebrating the history of Barcelona's future "La Masia" … [Read more...]
Can Real Madrid Win La Liga Next Season?
The return of Zinedine Zidane to the Bernabeu was one of the most surprising turn of events in the La Liga season. However, it did very little to improve their fortunes on the field that much with the club ending the season in third place behind their arch-rivals Atletico and champions Barcelona. The summer window is a massive deal for the club, and they have already indicated their intent with early signings of massive players. However, the lingering doubt of many players will likely decide the mood of the club as they begin their season. Madrid ended the season with three defeats in their … [Read more...]
Real Madrid Set for Transformation This Summer
Real Madrid have failed to live up to their usual high standards this season in La Liga and the Champions League, which could lead to the Spanish giants splashing the cash in the summer to reshape how their team looks for the 2019/20 campaign. Los Blancos said goodbye to Cristiano Ronaldo last summer as he left for Juventus and they have struggled to replace their leading goalscorer and that is reflected in the La Liga betting for the title as they are now as big as 100/1 going into the final two months of the campaign. Zinedine Zidane returned to the club a few weeks and has found a … [Read more...]
Will Cardoso be the man to help Celta Vigo realise their true potential?
IMAGE SOURCE: @RCCelta via Twitter Following a less than satisfactory start to the 2018-19 season in La Liga, Celta Vigo became the latest Spanish club to wield the axe when they sacked Antonio Mohamed, who only took the post at Balaidos last summer, along with his coaching staff. The Galician club didn’t waste any time in appointing a replacement, announcing the arrival of Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso. Undoubtedly facing a difficult challenge, Cardoso will be tasked with turning a poor season around, aiming to guide the club towards finishing in the top half of the table, at the very … [Read more...]
Dramatic Real Madrid U-turn has them closing in on trophies
Any Real Madrid fan leaving the Bernabeu on January the 6th after defeat to Real Sociedad would have been well in their rights to question the goings-on at the club. Sociedad had just kept Los Blancos out at home and recorded an unlikely 2-0 win which came on the back of a shambolic defensive performance away to Villareal. If you were to cast your mind back to two weeks before the draw at the Estadio de la Ceramica, when Madrid welcomed CSKA Moscow to the Bernabeu on matchday 6 of the Champions League, you realise there was genuine cause for concern. The Russian outfit ran amok in the … [Read more...]
Lopetegui replacement on Real’s radar?
Real Madrid are already sounding out potential replacements for Julen Lopetegui after the new manager made a disastrous start to life at the Bernebeu. Los Blancos are winless in their last four games and the players are said to be mutinous over his questionable tactics. A 1-0 defeat away at Alaves last time out embarrassed the European champions, and Lopetegui is on very thin ice indeed. Florentino Perez has already drawn up a shortlist of candidates to replace the former Spain boss, including Antonio Conte, Michael Laudrup and Laurent Blanc. Lopetegui’s one saving grace is that Barcelona … [Read more...]
What next for Rayo Vallecano after Vallecas safety concerns?
Described as a “disaster” in many headlines across the Spanish sporting press, over the last week or so, the closure of the dated Vallecas home of Rayo Vallecano has caused numerous problems amidst speculation that the stadium won’t be reopened until October, once urgent safety work has been completed. The matchday three fixture against Athletic Club Bilbao was postponed just days before it was due to take place. Rayo fans are angry at the leadership of their club, while the club’s directors are pointing accusing fingers at local authorities in Madrid, who they say are ultimately … [Read more...]
Bookies expect Barcelona to double-up with another La Liga title win
The summer carnival of football is over with France beating Croatia at the World Cup final in Moscow. It was a rather disappointing effort from the betting favourites though. Germany bowed out at the group stage, Brazil were eliminated in the quarterfinals and Spain topped Group B ahead of Portugal but lost to hosts Russia in the round of 16. Fans will be delighted to see the return of club football and the new La Liga season is fast approaching, the big kick-off scheduled for Friday 17th August. Major divisions are getting underway across Europe with the English top-tier out the starting … [Read more...]
Barcelona may struggle to defend Liga title next season
Barcelona won the 2017/18 Liga title with 93 points from 38 games, 17 more than third-placed Real Madrid who were defending champions. Barca, however, have lost Andres Iniesta this summer and have a bloated squad full of underperforming players who need moving on. Atletico Madrid finished in the top-two of La Liga for the first time in four years, although they were still 14 points adrift. They’ll have Diego Simeone in charge and Antoine Griezmann leading the attack next season, so they should put pressure on the big two for much of the campaign. Real have a squad that isn’t likely to … [Read more...]
