There have been a number of stars that have decided to swap the Premier League for La Liga over the last ten years, with some of them having more success than others. Luka Modric and Gareth Bale both left Tottenham Hotspur to join Real Madrid and win multiple Champions League honours, while Eden Hazard’s transfer to the same Spanish club from Chelsea hasn’t worked out as well as many would have believed.
However, that won’t stop stars from moving to Spain, and there are already a number of players currently playing in the Premier League that are being linked with a move to the warmer climate in the near future.
Mohamed Salah
One of the biggest transfer rumours over the past couple of weeks has been linking Mohamed Salah with a move to La Liga. Recent reports have claimed that the Egyptian is unhappy at Premier League champions Liverpool, and a move to Spain could be the end goal for the Reds star.
The departure of Salah would undoubtedly be a blow for Jurgen Klopp and his side, but few would argue against getting to see the chance of Salah strut his stuff for either Barcelona or Real Madrid. The Egyptian would improve any side that he walks into, and Salah’s comments could leave the door open to a bidding war between the two Spanish rivals next summer.
Hector Bellerin
It has also been reported that Arsenal could be willing to part ways with first-choice right-back Hector Bellerin. The 25-year-old has been with the Gunners since 2011, but Barcelona are reportedly keen on bringing the defender back to the Nou Camp.
It isn’t believed that the Gunners will stand in the way of the right-back returning to Spain, as long-standing injury issues and problems with his form have already seen fans call for the Gunners to try and sign a more astute defensive right-back in place of Bellerin. There isn’t a time frame at present regarding when the move could happen, but it is more likely to happen in the summer transfer window rather than the fast-approaching winter window.
Eric Garcia
Of all the moves that we have mentioned, this is the one that is almost a certainty and could happen as soon as January. Manchester City’s Eric Garcia has already told the club that he has no intention of signing a new deal at the Etihad, and has pleaded with the club to allow him to move back to Barcelona. Garcia started his career with the Catalonian club before moving to England in the summer of 2018.
City have stood firm to this point, as they have already turned down offers in the region of £10 million. It is understood that City are waiting for an offer of around £18 million before parting ways with the 19-year-old. The deal could happen in the winter, as City may end up losing the central defender on a free at the end of the season.
