On Saturday we witness without doubt the game of the weekend. In fact, the game of the month as the Madrid derby takes place.
However, in any other week, Sunday’s contest between Sevilla and Real Sociedad would catch the eye as at the time of writing it is Sociedad who surprisingly occupy second spot in La Liga.
With Sevilla occupying eighth heading into this weekend, the importance for both cannot be underestimated as both will look to build on their early season and maintain a push for a top four spot.
But the question remains – who will win come Sunday night?
Head to head
Unsurprisingly, it is Sevilla who just edge the head to heads in recent seasons.
The Sevillistas have claimed three wins in the pairs last six meetings with two draw and a single Sociedad win.
The last time Sociedad visited the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán they were on the receiving end of a 5-2 defeat despite heading into the break one a piece.
However, the visitors did record a victory on Sevilla soil in 2016 in a narrow 2-1 win.
There have also been two draws in the pairs last five results including one at Sociedad last season and one at Sevilla in May 2017.
Recent form
Sevilla come into the game frustrated after back to back losses in the league has dropped them to eighth.
A 1-0 home loss to Real Madrid did not shock many but it was the 3-2 away defeat to Eibar that has mounted the pressure on head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Pressure is something Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil is not under as three league victories in a row over Atletico Madrid, Espanyol, and Alaves has seen his side rise to second spot in the table.
Prediction
We are finding it hard to go against the home win despite Sociedad’s recent resurgence.
Sevilla have not lost three games in a row in the league since February/March and Lopetegui knows defeat in unacceptable.
A draw may be a good result on paper for both sides but expect Sevilla’s class to shine through and put a dent in Sociedad’s progress.
