The President of Deportivo La Coruna has admitted that his club is looking to acquire the services of Lucas Perez from Arsenal this summer.
Lucas Perez joined Arsenal from Deportivo La Coruna last summer and while many felt that the Spaniard was a good signing for the Gunners, he could not impress at the Emirates Stadium – largely owing to the lack of opportunities on the pitch provided to him by manager Arsene Wenger.
It is now widely expected that Perez will be heading towards the exit door from Arsenal this summer and reports have widely claimed that newly promoted Premier League side Newcastle United are keen on making a £13.4million swoop for the 28-year-old.
However, Newcastle are set to face competition in the race to sign Perez as Deportivo President Tino Fernandez has gone on to confirm that he would like to bring back the attacker to Riazor this summer if the opportunity presents itself.
Fernandez said, “Nothing is impossible but we have a limit. I never mention figures but we have done all that Deportivo can, even making a big effort because of the importance that I believe Lucas can have in this team next season.
“This is a very difficult negotiation but if I didn’t think there was a chance I would say so. If we are still in the race it’s because we believe there is a possibility. We will continue to fight because the truth is that Perez is looking forward to joining us.
“We can’t wait much more. We are also looking at other options as we have to take decisions because we are in the month of August and that is an important position. If he comes, he will have to captain the team with goals, assists and win games.”
