According to reports from Sky Sports, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace are currently plotting a move to sign Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
Barcelona signed Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal during the summer of 2014 for a fee believed to be in the region of around £15million but it has to be said that the transfer has proven to be an unmitigated disaster for the Catalan giants.
Since arriving to the Camp Nou, Vermaelen has been limited to only 11 league appearances and with the Belgian international struggling while on loan at Roma last season as well, Barcelona are believed to be looking to cut their losses on the defender by offloading him this summer.
Nonetheless, Vermaelen is a top class player when fit and it is believed that he is currently attracting the interest from clubs in England, with Sky Sports claiming that West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace are considering a move for the 31-year-old.
Vermaelen enjoyed success in England with Arsenal and a return to the Premier League might just be what is required for the injury-prone star to revive his career.
