New Everton attacker Sandro Ramirez has gone on to liken Wayne Rooney to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.
Everton have made a huge signal of intent during the summer transfer window so far by acquiring the services of quality players such as Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez, but the man who has managed to capture the imagination of the fans is Wayne Rooney.
Rooney has returned to Goodison Park from Manchester United following 13 years after his departure from Merseyside and many have earmarked the 31-year-old to lead the exciting revolution Everton are currently undergoing.
While few many argue with the fact that Rooney is no longer the player he once was, the all time leading England goalscorer most certainly remains a huge influence and teammate Sandro Ramirez has stated that the veteran can have the same impact in the dressing room that Andres Iniesta has at Barcelona.
Ramirez, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, told the Daily Mirror, “I have been very lucky so far in my career. First I played alongside Messi and now it is Wayne Rooney. They are two of the biggest names in football history.
“From the first day here, Wayne was really kind to me. He has showed a real desire to help me and I think it is great to see that. For me, as a player, it is an opportunity to learn from one of the top players. It was the same at Barcelona, where I think I learnt a lot.
“La Masia instils values for life as a person as much as for football. I learnt so many things from the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol – players with so much stature and experience of top-level football. You are learning from these guys every minute you’re with them.”
