According to reports from the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are set to complete their 5th signing of the summer in the form of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino.
Newcastle United had a slow start to their summer transfer window but the Magpies have picked things up in recent times with the capture of Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo.
Now in what looks set to be Newcastle’s fifth signing of the summer, the Daily Mail have revealed that the Tyneside outfit have agreed a deal to secure the services of Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund, with an obligation to buy.
Merino is an exciting young talent who joined Dortmund from Osasuna only last summer but having failed to adapt to life in the German Bundesliga, the 21-year-old was limited to only eight league appearances.
As a result, it seemed very likely that Merino would be leaving Dortmund this summer and Newcastle United have decided to take a chance on the Spaniard, with manager Rafael Benitez believed to be a keen admirer of the young man.
