Gerard Pique has given his thoughts regarding Barcelona reported pursuit of Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho.
Philippe Coutinho has arguably been one of the best attacking players in the Premier League over the past few years and the Brazilian international is believed to have attracted the interest from a host of top clubs across Europe due to his fine performances.
Spanish champions Barcelona, in particular, seem to be very keen on securing the services of Coutinho and the Catalan giants are expected to ramp up their pursuit for the 24-year-old next summer as a potential replacement for Andres Iniesta.
With the rumors gathering steam in recent times, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was queried regarding Coutinho’s chances of joining him at the Nou Camp but the 30-year-old remained coy about the speculation and stated that although he would welcome the Liverpool star, he is not in charge of the transfers at the club.
As quoted by ESPN, Pique said, “That’s Robert Fernandez’s area, as sporting director, but obviously if the best players come [to Barca] we receive them with our arms open. But it’s other people who are in charge of the needs of the team, not me.”
