Sporting Gijon News
After looking doomed and gloomed earlier on in the season, Sporting Gijon have managed to give themselves a great chance of avoiding the drop following a run of four matches without a single defeat in La Liga.
The run has certainly given Gijon a lot of confidence but things remain very tight at the bottom of the Premier League table and manager Abelardo will not be allowing his players to get complacent anytime soon.
Now Sporting prepare for a huge test when they welcome champions Barcelona to the Estadio Municipal El Molinón this Wednesday and they will require a minor miracle to claim a victory on the night.
Injury Doubts: Roberto Canella, Juan Muniz, Hugo Fraile Martinez, Antonio Sanabria, Bernardo, Dani Ndi
Sporting Gijon Probable Lineup: Cuellar, Vranjes, Hernandez, Mere, Lopez; Alvarez, Ait-Atmane, Cases, Carmona; Guerrero, Jony
Barcelona Club News
Barcelona continued their rampant run of form with a stunning 6-1 victory over Celta Vigo last time out and it is looking virtually impossible to stop the Catalan giants at the moment. Nonetheless, things still remain tight in the table and Barcelona can ill afford to get complacent.
Now Luis Enrique’s men are handed an opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table when they play their game in hand against Sporting Gijon in midweek but despite heading into the clash as favourites, the champions will have to be wary of a resurgent Sporting outfit.
Injury Doubts: Rafinha
Barcelona Probable Lineup: Bravo, Dani Alves, Pique, Macherano, Alba; Roberto, Rakitic, Turan; Turan, Suarez, Neymar
Prediction
Sporting Gijon have not beaten Barcelona in over 20 years and it seems very unlikely that they will be able to end the rut on Wednesday.
While Sporting are showing signs of improvement in recent times, Barcelona are in simply scintillating form and should be able to claim a comfortable victory on the night.
