Manchester United have been dealt with a blow in their hopes of signing Neymar after it was revealed that the attacker is set to pen a new contract with Barcelona.
As evidenced by the drab style of football Manchester United have been playing under Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils have been crying out for a flamboyant attacker to turn them into an exciting team once again.
Given United’s financial resources, they have been linked with the very best players in the world such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Lionel Messi and even Luis Suarez.
Another world class player with whom Manchester United have been consistently linked with is Barcelona’s Neymar and among the aforementioned players, the Brazilian superstar has been touted as the most realistic target for the Premier League giants due to his current contractual situation.
As a huge blow for United though, Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that Neymar will snub the Red Devils by signing a contract extension with the Catalan giants.
Bartomeu said, “I’ve been talking with his father in the last few days but what Barca have done is to move things forward and call Neymar, recognising that we pay him less than he deserves and offering to start speaking about updating his contract.
“I’m convinced that in the next few months we’ll reach an agreement with Neymar. He represents the future of Barca, and it’s not just me who says that.”
