According to the Metro, Liverpool have made a 13.9 million pound offer to Real Madrid as they aim to sign midfielder Asier Illaramendi.
The player has struggled to nail down a place in the Real Madrid starting line-up since his move from Real Sociedad, meaning a transfer could be on the cards.
Illaramendi is a consistent performer, although he lacks the outstanding qualities needed to cement a role in the Real Madrid team.
Liverpool are looking for a midfield general to fill the void of now departed captain Steven Gerrard, and they consider Illaramendi to be the man to perform that job.
If they were to complete the transfer, they would be left with a capable midfield, which already includes Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Emre Çan to name a few.
Illaramendi would be a smart addition to the base of the Liverpool midfield, and his presence would allow more attacking midfielders such as Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho to flourish in more attacking positions.
Liverpool would be delighted to add a player of Illaramendi’s quality to their ranks, but are likely to spend modestly, given that they have spent a considerable amount of money on transfers so far.

I genuinely think Liverpool will actually have a better chance than a lot of the pundits think of winning the Premier league this year, not just trying to cement a top four finish, the new acquisitions are quality players and will give them the necessary fire power they lacked last year.
