Newcastle announced yesterday the signing of striker Aleksandar Mitrović from Belgian club Anderlecht
The signing is a major coup for Newcastle who have also acquired Dutch playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum so far in this summer’s transfer window.
Newcastle fans will be delighted by the acquisition as they aim to pose a more attacking threat this coming season, after last season’s misery.
The acquisition of Mitrović means current Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez will face a tough task if he is to force away into the team next campaign.
The former CD Tenerife striker, whose 22nd birthday is tomorrow, has been a beacon of light at St James’ since his arrival.
Despite his seemingly slight physicality, Perez has adapted well to the Premier League, however, the addition of Mitrović means that first team opportunities are likely to be limited this coming season.
This could open the door for a potential move away from Newcastle, should the striker desire regular first team football.
However, due to the forward’s young age and huge potential, Magpie’s fans will be hoping they receive no offers from other clubs before the transfer window closes.

Surprisingly there is a formation called a 4-4-2 where there are two strikers, meaning that Perez can still be in the first team squad.
