As gloom descends over Old Trafford, David Moyes is on the brink of making his first transfer window move and bringing in a La Liga left back. Not, however, the expected move for Real Madrid outcast Fabio Coentrao but a swoop for Sevilla’s young defender Alberto Moreno.
Patrice Evra is nearing the end of his Manchester United career and has looked increasingly fragile as the season has progressed. With a left back the priority it had seemed that Coentrao was the one who would be flying in from Spain. The Madrid full back had other ideas – he doesn’t want to move to a club that seems likely to be without Champion’s League football next year and has decided to stay put at the Bernabeu until a better offer comes along
Moyes always had a plan B, C and D in mind. His team have been scouting a number of left backs including Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw from the English Premier League, but they have been left in no doubt that their clubs won’t be selling them.
The spotlight has now fallen on the 21 year old Moreno, and this time there is nothing to stop the transfer from happening. Moreno, who missed his side’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid yesterday, has come through the youth ranks at Sevilla and is very highly regarded. Despite having played only 31 games for the first team, he has already gained two caps for the full Spanish side and could yet make their squad for the Brazil world cup.
Moreno has pace, and strength that belies his years. What he has most of all is youth and ambition – qualities that would make him a better choice for Manchester United than the more vaunted Coentrao. There is a lot of improvement still to come from Moreno, and he is open to a move to one of the biggest teams in European football with or without the lure of the Champion’s League.
Moreno won’t come cheap – teams know that Manchester United are desperate to make a signing, if only to appease their fans, and will bump up their asking price accordingly. Chelsea have also been showing an interest in the youngster, but if Moyes can come up with around €20M then Moreno should be his. I expect to see him at Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.

Moreno played yesterday against a.madrid and was sent off late in the game..albeit harshly!!
Not a prayer utd will sign him..too good a player for.moyes liking

That was a different Moreno, not the left back that Manchester United are after. It was right back Andujar Moreno, commonly known as Coke in Spain to avoid any confusion. A player not to be sniffed at!
