Saul Niguez is the hottest prospect in Spanish football at the moment, and it seems that Manchester United have taken the lead in a three way race to secure his signature.
The 19 year old midfielder is currently plying his football on loan at Rayo Vallecano, having been sent there to gain first team experience by Atletico manager Diego Simeone. Niguez has grabbed the chance with both hands and has been the outstanding player in a Vallecona side struggling at the foot of La Liga.
Niguez has scored one goal in his sixteen appearances for the Vallecanos, but it his passing vision and composure on the ball that have caught the eye of English Premier League clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea have shown an interest, even Real Madrid are believed to be keeping an eye on his development. But the Old Trafford outfit have stolen a march on their rivals. David Moyes’ right hand man Phil Neville flew to Madrid to watch Rayo Vallecano pick up a vital 1-0 victory against Getafe.
Neville will have been impressed with what he saw – although it was Alberto Buena who clinched the win it was Niguez who ran the show. A deal seems imminent and could be completed by the end of the week, although it is likely that the deal will see Niguez will see out this season in Spain before joining his new club for the start of the 2014-15 season.
