There’s nothing pretty about stereotypes, especially when it comes to gender, but if you were putting together a lifestyle website aimed at men you might consider pitching it around the two subjects close to many a man’s heart; namely football and cars.
Of course, this might have something to do with the fact that the huge wages earn by most top flight footballers seem to go on a fleet of expensive motors before anything else, but in truth there are practical reasons why the two go together for many normal people too.
Away days
Any true footy fan knows that there is something special about making the journey to away matches. Having a season ticket and going to every home game is one thing, but making the effort to trawl all over the country on alternate weekends, and sometimes weekday nights, takes things to a higher level of dedication.
This can be especially true if you follow a team that isn’t in the premiership. Not only are there more away games each season, but some of the destination grounds are a little more off the beaten track. Getting to away games can be a tricky thing to manage, as the UK’s train system isn’t the cheapest and later kick offs for mid-week games can be particularly difficult to negotiate.
If there are a few of you going in a group, it can make really financial sense to pool your money and travel together in one car.
Comfort and reliability
Of course, getting a few mates in the car can be a great experience and add to the enjoyment all round, but it’s not so great if you’re all cramped in together in a tiny supermini or if you car isn’t the most reliable for long trips.
In the UK used cars are a great way to afford something that you might otherwise not be able to splash out on as brand new. Top names and manufacturers now produce models that can be expected to do far more miles than previous generations and last considerably longer.
Factor into this the ‘approved’ used car programmes that most official dealerships offer and you’ve got options to buy the car of your dreams at a price you can afford. Not only that, but you’ll be able to take your mates to all the away matches you want to go to and probably get them to pay for all the fuel costs too.
