Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas Boas reportedly turned down the opportunity to manage Catalan giants FC Barcelona in the summer claims Spanish football show, Punto Pelota. The ex Porto and Chelsea boss was also heavily linked with PSG a few months back but snubbed both the French giants and Barcelona and opted to stay put with the North London outfit for at least a season more.
According to Punto Pelota, FC Barca acted quickly following the news that former boss Tito Vilanova would have to resign his position in the club due to health reasons. But AVB was quick to turn down their offer, preferring to continue building his Tottenham Hotspur side who he guided to 5th in the Premier League last season.
Whilst this information will seem irrelevant to Barca fans after their club enjoying a record-breaking start to the new domestic campaign (eight consecutive wins in La Liga), it’s of interest to the footballing world that the baby-faced gaffer turned his nose up and one of the biggest and most successful clubs in world football.
Argentine Gerardo Martino instead took the Barca hot seat and after a comfortable 4-1 victory over Real Vallodolid on Saturday, they sit top of the Primera Division, level on points with Atletico Madrid but with a superior goal difference.
Spurs meanwhile suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to local rivals West Ham on Sunday and sit in 6th position in the Premier League table.
