Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti has today denied any accusation that the sacking of ex-assistant manager Ray Wilkins has had a detrimental affect on his side.
After Chelsea crashed out to Everton on penalties Saturday afternoon, more and more evidence is stacking up to suggest that Ray Wilkins’ departure last year is the main reason behind Chelsea’s poor performances in both cup competitions and the Premier League.
Whilst speaking to BBC Football after the FA Cup fourth round replay tie, Ancelotti remained positive about player morale in the club and denied any link between Ray Wilkins’ departure and his side’s poor form.
“I don’t think they’ve [the players] lost any confidence in me.”
“It’s the same; with Ray and without Ray. We have lost confidence because we have not been able to do the things we want to do on the pitch.”
“But I am happy because just as the staff with Ray was good, the staff without Ray is also as good.”
The Blues currently sit in 5th position in the Premier League and a massive 12 points off leaders Manchester United. The only hope of silverware for the club this season seems to lie in Europe as they are set to face FC Copenhagen this Tuesday in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie.
