Former Middlesbrough, FC Twente and England coach Steve McClaren has today been dismissed by German side Wolfsburg.
McClaren took over the Bundesliga side last year after guiding Dutch minnows FC Twente to the Dutch eredivisie in the 2009/2010 season.
This campaign has been a completely different story however as his Wolfsburg side are currently sitting in 12th place in the German Bundesliga and just one point from the relegation zone after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Hannover 96.
With the managerial post recently becoming available at West Brom following Roberto Di Matteo’s dismissal, McClaren (49) could be in line for a prompt return to English management, assigned the task of steering the newly-promoted Baggies clear of relegation.
McClaren started his managerial career in 2001 at Middlesbrough where he guided them to a 2004 League Cup victory as well as reaching the Uefa Cup final in 2006.
