Highly-rated Spanish youngster Alvaro Morata has moved from Real Madrid to Juventus in a £16m deal. Once a target for Arsenal and Spurs, striker Morata was a peripheral figure for Real last season despite breaking into the squad the year before.
Madrid have inserted a clause into the 21-year-old’s contract that they can reacquire his registration rights for a fee of up to €30m after two years with the Italian club. Morata has joined on a five-year-deal and will link up with compatriot Fernando Llorente in Turin.
Morata scored 11 times in 52 games for Real, though many of those appearances were fleeting after coming off of the bench. He bagged 8 La Liga goals for the club last season as Real won the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, but was kept out of the team by new signing Gareth Bale and promising youngster Jese.
“Juve are one of the best clubs in the world, and the best in Italy,” Morata said. “I am keen to contribute to the pursuit of further success. I’ve spoken to Allegri and I have a strong desire to get to work.
“I’ve wanted to play for Juve for a long time and the club have always shown a strong interest in me. I feel ready. I know it will be hard, but I’m ready to tackle Serie A head on.”
Morata will hope to play more first team football at Juve and force his way into what could be a transitional full Spanish squad following the disappointment at the World Cup.
