Read Madrid’s fine start to the season continued last weekend as their 4-1 victory over rivals Atletico Madrid put them three points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand over Barcelona. The majority of bookmakers now make Real Madrid 4/7 favorites to claim the La Liga title this season, including their sponsors online bookmakers and poker room Bwin who currently make them 11/21.
A spokesman for the gambling firm said this week, “we’ve been avid followers of Real Madrid ever since our sponsorship deal began in 2009 and even though Barcelona have been unarguably the greatest team in the world recently, things seem to have finally clicked under Jose Mourinho and we can definitely see them going the whole way this year. The cruical moment will be next week’s El Clasico to see if Madrid have closed the gap this season but we will get well and truely behind our boys and believe that they can get a result on home soil.”
For Barcelona, it’s been a slow start to the season by their unusually high standards. They’ve already drawn four times this season and suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to the hands of Getafe last weekend.
It’s almost as if they’ve become victims of their own success as teams such as Getafe are now becoming more wise to how to defend against Lionel Messi and co. Meanwhile, rivals Madrid continue to grind out results week on week and a convincing 4-1 win over rivals Athletico is proof that Mourinho’s men are in rampant form this season.
With the lion-share of games still yet to play this season it would still be very difficult to pick this season’s La Liga champions but for anyone who still fancies Barcelona, 11/8 with most bookmakers definitely represents good value.

I think Madrid needed to win this year’s first El Clasico to stand any chance of winning the league to be honest, Barcelona again proved that they’re still the stronger team.

We’ll still win La Liga despite losing El Clasico, hala Madrid!

Madrid still have an 8 point lead, can’t see Barca coming back from that.
